After moving out here a couple of years ago from the West Coast, I was looking for a garage that was trustworthy—the type of place that, when you don’t need work done, they tell you. I don’t mind paying for repairs that are necessary, but I want to deal with mechanics that have integrity, don’t oversell, and do solid work. I believe that I found that at Campus Garage. When I find mechanics that fit the bill, I am a very loyal customer. It takes time to establish that kind of trust, but I believe my first experience with campus garage is a good start. They cleaned my hybrid battery fan, which badly needed it. They were prompt and reasonably priced. I also got a discount for being an alumnus at Iowa State University. Suffice to say, I believe this is the start of a mutually beneficial business relationship.

I've taken my car here twice now. They do a free diagnostic on your car to figure out what is wrong, and are reasonably priced. They aren't cheap by any means, but they're not out to rob anyone either. So they will likely have the best deal compared to the competition. Service is very professional and friendly. There was no up selling which I really appreciated. Just a diagnostic of what was wrong and a quote on how much it would cost to fix. They did nothing until I confirmed them to work. Their estimate both times were a little higher than I actually paid. I highly recommend them. They are smaller, and busier than most places (because they're honest and do a great job) so I would advise making an appointment and expect to wait a few days. I plan on bringing my business to them whenever I can.

Very fast, and priced correct! Had parts in stock, so waiting till they shipped was not an issue. Had towed to his lot, next day I knew the issue, following day I picked up my vehicle. Everything was fixed and runs great again.

Normally, I do my own repairs on my vehicle but a combination of time and tools on hand made me look for a garage to do some diagnostic and repair work on my 2001 Mustang. The entire process from requesting a quote to dropping off my car for diagnosis and repair was very smooth, and Erik was very helpful in breaking down the expected cost of the repair I anticipated needing (intake manifold gasket replacement). In the end, it turned out my car needed an exhaust manifold gasket replacement and I was given an estimate with a precise cost for parts and a ~$150 range for what labor would cost (reasonable given a 25 year old car with potential for studs breaking or encountering rust and brittle components can take more or less time to fix depending on the number of issues encountered). The work they did was great and ended up being almost exactly in the middle of the range I was quoted. They were accommodating with pick up, since I wasn't able to make it to the shop before they closed at 5 pm, I was able to arrange for my keys to be left in a lockbox for pickup later. I highly recommend Campus Garage for high-quality service in Ames. I needed a comprehensive service on my 07 Tundra (4.7L) and they were incredibly accommodating throughout the process. While the local dealership had a 1+ month waiting list just for an inspection, Campus ordered the parts and scheduled me within 2 weeks. They provided various options for parts and have knowledgeable technicians with expertise regarding the reliability of Aisin and reputable OEM parts. They were happy to source an Aisin timing belt and water pump kit per my request, along with the cam and crank seals, fan clutch bracket, pulleys, tensioner, thermostat, and hoses while they were already accessible. Since those parts were 18-19 years old and are difficult to inspect without disassembling the front of the engine, replacing them now gives me great peace of mind. It saved me a massive amount of future labor costs compared to waiting for a component to fail, and they knocked the whole job out in one day. They are honest, highly efficient, and provided exactly the service I was looking for.
